Music maturity came swiftly for the now seasoned-veteran Robbert van de Corput, better known as Hardwell. At the age of 25, the young Dutch titan was crowned World’s #1 DJ in the 2013 DJ Mag Top 100 DJs Poll, a feat he went on to repeat in 2014. Despite relinquishing his crown in 2015, though still taking the highly respectable second-place spot, it’s clear that Hardwell has already created a legacy that would put most of his counterparts to shame. This award-winning DJ, producer, musician, label owner and lover of all things music has not only helped shape the current state of dance music, but has left an everlasting imprint on it.
Label boss of Revealed Recordings, home to an ever-growing plethora of fresh and exciting new talent, Hardwell’s own studio output saw the release of his debut album United We Are in January 2015, featuring a host of collaborations with the likes of Jason Derulo, Fatman Scoop and Tiësto to name but a few. Hardwell also honoured his imprint Revealed Recording’s 200th release by stepping up himself on the hotly anticipated ‘Mad World’ with vocalist Jake Reese, reaching #1 on the Beatport Progressive House Chart and taking the #2 position on the Beatport Top 100. In addition to a few more Beatport #1 hits to add to his already impressive haul and claiming the #2 spot on the worldwide iTunes chart, the album also spawned the worldwide ‘I AM Hardwell – United We Are’ tour, which kicked off with two sell-out shows at Amsterdam’s iconic Ziggo Dome. 2014 also saw Hardwell launch his Ibiza residency at the open-air Ushuaia complex, where he returned to the island for a second season in 2015 with his hugely popular Hardwell’s Carnival concept. In 2016 the Dutch star will be back at Ushuaia Ibiza for a third season with a fresh new concept titled DNA.
Deciding to utilise his global appeal for social change Hardwell stepped into the world of philanthropy in 2015 by joining hands with international music agency, Anna Agency and launching the United We Are Foundation. The first project which launched on December 13th in one of India’s largest stadiums, the D.Y. Patil Stadium in Mumbai, saw Hardwell joined by 70,000+ fans on his own personal guest list to unite for an occasion to “make a social difference” against the lack of education for underprivileged children living in the slums of Mumbai. The spectacular charity concert branded the ‘World’s Biggest Guest List’, saw UWAF figurehead and concert host Hardwell deliver not only an historical event with high impact, but also bring visibility and awareness around the much-needed issue of education for young children in India.
Adding another facet to his already busy life, Hardwell also spent two years busy preparing to release his his second documentary ‘I AM Hardwell – Living The Dream’ during the world renowned Amsterdam Dance Event, premiering the film at the famous Pathé Tuschinski theatre cinema. Directed by Robin Piree, who also made the 2013 documentary ‘I AM Hardwell’, this film follows the DJ at the height of his fame around the globe during his ‘I Am Hardwell’ concert tour visiting 34 cities around the world. The film received a national cinema release during ADE in the Netherlands and is available on iTunes worldwide.
In October 2013, during Amsterdam Dance Event, Hardwell held the world premiere of his ‘I Am Hardwell’ documentary in Amsterdam’s oldest and most famous cinema, Tuschinski. The documentary provides a captivating inside-look on Hardwell’s rise. With the motto - "If you can dream it, you can do it”. 2015 saw the release of the sequel film ‘I AM Hardwell – Living The Dream’, again premiered during Amsterdam Dance Event and following Hardwell on his world tour, asking the question "The problem with dreams is what happens once they've come true?". Hardwell unveiled the sequel to his 2013 documentary with a new film in 2015 titled ‘I Am Hardwell – Living The Dream’.
The rise of Hardwell as a young boy from the city of Breda into a ripened international super-heavyweight has become an inspiring tale for all.
