“I’m from a small country in Africa called Benin. I won the visa lottery to come here. I didn’t even know I was eligible. My brother entered my name and didn’t even tell me. I was studying to be a psychiatrist at the time. I assumed that I’d be able to continue with medical school. But when I arrived here, I found out that none of my credits would transfer. I had a choice: either go home and become a doctor, or start from the bottom. I didn’t speak any English. I didn’t have any money. But I knew if I could somehow make it here, my degree would be much more valuable. So I made the choice to stay. I began practicing English with my young nieces. The first thing I learned was: ‘I’m going to kick you.’ I got a job with a catering company and learned how to say ‘I’m here to deliver your food.’ I studied as many YouTube videos as I could during my free time. It’s been three years now. I’m almost finished with my bachelor’s degree. Just two classes left. At nights I work as a behavioral specialist in a mental health facility. I’m going to take the MCAT in September. My friends back home have all become doctors already, but I try not to think about them. I don’t want to lose my focus. El Tribunal Federal Suizo ha dejado en suspenso la injusta sanción impuesta en mi contra y en consecuencia me ha habilitado para integrarme a mi Selección y participar en el Mundial de Rusia, como su capitán.
Esta decisión, hace justicia, al menos parcialmente y compromete mi agradecimiento al Tribunal Suizo.
Como creyente que soy, agradezco en primer lugar a Dios en quien siempre he creído y el apoyo invalorable de mi familia. Por supuesto, debo señalar que esto no hubiera sido posible de lograr sin el apoyo de la Federación Peruana de Fútbol y en particular de su presidente el Sr. Edwin Oviedo, quien permaneció a mi lado, en Suiza, cada uno de los días transcurridos hasta obtener este resultado favorable.
Igualmente invalorable ha sido el apoyo de cada uno de mis compañeros en la Selección. Me ha trasmitido la fuerza necesaria para sobrepasar este duro momento, pero no me sorprende, pues así es como se comporta una familia y eso es lo que somos. Por supuesto, también, mi gratitud eterna a mi país, a los millones de compatriotas que se han unido a mi, de miles de maneras diferentes, con un común denominador: el cariño desbordado. Yo los invito a seguir unidos y a entender que más allá de cualquier diferente opinión, los peruanos unidos podemos lograr cualquier cosa que parezca imposible.
Finalmente, mi gratitud a Presidente de la FIFA Gianni Infantino, a los capitanes de Australia, Dinamarca y Francia; a la FIFPRO, a mis colegas jugadores profesionales de otras selecciones y a tantas personas, anónimas o no, que de una manera u otra fueron útiles para lograr este resultado.
Mi batalla sigue y de ello seguirán a cargo mis abogados, a quienes también agradezco. Yo me uno a mi Selección y junto a mis compañeros, me comprometo a dar el mayor de mis esfuerzos para darle nuevas y mayores alegrías a mi país. Ya no hay límites. Ya no hay sueños imposibles, por que está demostrado que cuando los peruanos nos unimos, todo es posible.

I knew the minute we announced our pregnancy that we would be bombarded with unsolicited advice.
Some good and some questionable - unsolicited none the less.
I also was prepared for the backlash and criticism we would get if we decided to be open about our personal approach to our pregnancy. My own Father flipped out on me when I told him we decided to ditch our doctor and go with a midwife instead.
If you don’t know what it’s like have people around you think you are ridiculous, try being openly vegan.
And, if you don’t know what it’s like to have the entire world openly criticize, judge, throw uninformed opinions, and curse you - try being a pregnant vegan, having a natural, drug-free home birth in water with a midwife and doula, who has the intention of raising a vegan child, without vaccinations.
My point being: I already know what it’s like to make life choices that are not the same as the majority. So your negative comments are not going influence my choices - actual research and educating myself will - which i am diligently doing.
This is my body. This is our child. And this is our pregnancy journey.
Feel free to follow me on here if you like what I’m about - whether it’s tattooing, lipstick, Animal Rights, sobriety, feminism, ridiculous gothiness, black flower gardening, cats, or my adorable husband.
But if you don’t dig a certain something about what I post, i kindly ask that you press the unfollow button and move the fuck on.
