Kirsten Sanford, PhD (a.k.a. Dr. Kiki) is dedicated to making
science a part of everyone’s lives.
Dr. Kiki holds a B.S. in Conservation Biology and a Ph.D. in Molecular, Cellular and Integrative Physiology
from U.C. Davis, and is a specialist in learning and memory. She is also
the founder and host of the popular This Week in Science radio show,
a weekly program broadcast from U.C. Davis and avidly followed by thousands of
fans worldwide.
In 2005, Dr. Kiki was awarded the American
Association for the Advancement of Science Mass Media Science &
Engineering. Following the fellowship, she worked as a television
news producer at WNBC
in New
York City with noted health and science reporter Dr. Max Gomez.
In late 2007 and early 2008, Dr. Kiki expanded her communications work into
online video, starring in both On Networks successful series Food Science
and Revision3's
variety show PopSiren. She also appeared regularly on Revision3’s Systm, and hosted several episodes of MacBreak during the PixelCorp’s coverage
of the 2008 and 2009 MacWorld conference.
Additionally, Dr. Kiki hosted Potential Energy and Green Tech Today, podcasts about alternative
energy concerns and solutions, and was a regular guest on both This Week in Media and This Week in Tech. She contributes to Skepticblog.org and to her own blog, The Bird's Brain.Dr. Kiki's Science Hour, an acclaimed science interview program on noted technology pundit, Leo
Laporte's TWiT.tv, ran from 2010-2012.
Dr. Kiki’s new media efforts initiated her entry into television in 2008. She co-hosted the pilot for a skeptical reality
TV show called The Skeptologists. She was also reporter-at-large for
the Science Channel and a contributor to their show, Brink, and has appeared on CBS’s The Doctors.In 2013, Dr. Kiki hosted programs for Google and the Google Science Fair involving noted scientists and political activists.She has also written for Scientific American and Discover.com.
In her spare time, Dr. Kiki has dabbled in sailing, gymnastics, martial
arts, hula hooping, and yoga. She enjoys bird-watching, cooking, reading
fiction novels, watching movies, dancing to loud music, and a nice glass of red
wine… not necessarily in that order or at the same time.
